Acne Information and Treatment

Acne is most common during teenage years when the body requires large amounts of hormones in order to grow and to mature from a child to an adult. Nearly 80 per cent of teenagers will get some degree of acne. Acne or pimples may be caused by wrong food habits and improper skin care. Homemade beauty recipes like face-packs, facial masks, scrubs, hair care, dandruff care and body wraps based on herbs and natural ingredients help improve the skin disorders and detoxify. They help in providing natural oil and moisture to the skin.

Acne-the technical name for pimples-is. a disease affecting the oil glands of the skin. It can occur on the face, chest, shoulders, back and sometimes even the bottoms. There may be a mixture of blackheads, whiteheads and a variety of inflamed lesions, which may be pustules, bumps or larger nodules.

The basic cause of acne is a hormonal imbalance. All of us, of either sex, have both male and female hormones; it is only the proportion of male to female hormones that varies in the two sexes. The main hormones that are involved in causing acne are the male hormones called androgens. Androgens make oil glands overactive, thicken the skin and narrow down or close the oil gland pore. This initially leads to the formation of blackheads and whiteheads. When bacteria, which are normally present on everybody's skin, enter the oil glands, it results in the formation of pus, which can give . you either red bumps or pus-filled pimples. When the infection goes deeper, it can lead to ugly marks, blemishes and scars.
